One of the Braves top prospect signings is reportedly the focus of MLB’s investigation.

It has been a whirlwind of a day for the Atlanta Braves who are the subject of an MLB investigation which forced the resignation of general manager John Coppolella along with special assistant Gordon Blakeley. While there has only been speculation on what infractions the Braves were to have committed, things seem to be focusing on their 2016 signing of infielder Kevin Maitan according to a report by Yahoo Sports’ Jeff Passan.

Team president John Hart shed a bit of light on the investigation earlier today. The team initially didn’t think that the investigation would lead to anything serious but that changed significantly over the last 72 hours.’s Mark Bowman reports that there were indications that an investigation into an unrelated matter led investigators to stumble onto major infractions committed by the Braves.

"I don't know what [MLB's] original focus was," Hart said. "They informed us they had become aware of some issues and we immediately made it clear we'd do whatever we could to help. Again, over the past 72 hours, you could feel a different kind of a tone."

That led to Coppolella being summoned back to Atlanta from Miami where he had been for the Braves final series against the Marlins and ultimately his resignation.
