To say it’s been an interesting past 48 hours for the Atlanta Braves would be an understatement however baseball news does not stop. Baseball America recently put out the first round of their 2018 MLB Draft now that the draft order is set.
With the #8 pick in the 2018 draft the Atlanta Braves select...
The selection comes as a bit of a surprise as the flame throwing pitcher has seen his status rocket (heh..heh) up. The son of Tracy Rocker, former defensive tackle for the Washington Redskins, you can imagine he has the body to be a pitcher and that he does coming in at 6’5” 250 pounds at 17 years of age.
Kumar has an absolute cannon for an arm consistently sitting in the mid 90s with his fastball and spotting it up to 98 miles per hour, at again just 17 years of age. He has a three pitch arsenal featuring a fastball with tons of run, a dynamic slider, and a fast developing changeup that Perfect Game states has sinking action. He is also ranked as the top player in the class per Perfect Game.
Kumar is a Vandy commit, and like Kyle Wright whom the Braves selected in the last draft, he will cost a lot to buy him out of that commitment. That said, if he is available he is an absolute no brainer and would be another high ceiling arm in a system filled with them.
