Farnsworth in the Lead!

Most rankers, rank year in and year out, without receiving any comparisons to their peers. There are three ways we could do this. (1) Measure MLB success. (2) Measure MILB success. (3) A combination. I chose measuring MLB success. It is the easiest and most relevant to measure. The downside is the method takes longer to play out. I included 10 published top 20 ranks including my own. (More than 20 left out too many rankers.)

The method I chose was to weight ranks in reverse order by 20 to 1 and then multiply each player's rank weight by their WAR. I did have to make a few adjustments as I will note now. Farnsworth needed to have the AZ players inserted. I chose to leave be the impact of writers who did not include Olivera out of elligibility. If Ohtani comes over and signs with the Braves they will be punished in future rankings. Without further ado:

WAR COMMENTARY

10.6 Fangraphs - did not include Jenkins in top 20 which allowed him to avoid on average 7.44 negative points scored by group on this poor selection
9.8 Cortyrone - I avoided both positive points (Mallex) and negative points (Olivera) while ranking Jenkins 20th.
5.7 Gondee - lower on Jenkins and Blair than the field.
5.5 Talking Chop "TC" - they beat the community by refusing to rank Olivera.
4.8 Baseball America "BA" - high man on Olivera (#4) will cost them for years.
3.6 Talking Chop Community "TCC" - solidly in the middle.
3.5 McAuley - refused to rank Olivera helped a lot.
0.3 Sickels - ranked Mallex lower than most above him could help out in long run.
-1.1 Chase - high man on Jenkins really hurt.
-3.1 Law - Even though he skipped Olivera he was super high on Blair and lowish on Mallex.

This is one year of nine I intend to track this and I will only count WAR for 7 years for a given player. At this point anyone can turn into the winner in theory, though certain lists have taken enormous hits already. Hard to find a worse 4,5,6,7,8 then Chase with Blair, Olivera, Banuelos, Sims and Jenkins.

The biggest jumpers were Acuna and Weigel. My list could win in dominant fashion on Acuna alone (#5) with the next best being Law (#13). Talking Chop, Gondee, Fangraphs, BA and McAuley did not bother putting Acuna in their top 20. Weigel was in no one's list. Another high riser Pache appeared on two lists (mine at #16 and Talking Chop at #19). Fangraphs could uniquely benefit form Povse and Cabrera and already has on the latter.

Other Talking Chop Community members published their lists last year as well and drop a note here and I will add you to this table.
