Matt Kemp will begin “brief” rehab stint on Wednesday

After sitting on the sidelines since leaving April 8th’s game, Matt Kemp is ready to get back in action and will be joining the G-Braves on a rehab stint later this week.

Matt Kemp’s time on the disabled list is probably going to come to a close pretty soon. The Braves’ left fielder has been on the disabled list (retroactive to April 8th) with a strained hamstring, but the injury itself wasn’t considered to be too serious and Kemp has been carefully working his way back to health since being placed on the DL.

Now, we may have an idea of when Kemp may be returning to the lineup. The Braves announced that Kemp will be going on a rehab assignment starting Wednesday.

AJC Braves beat writer Dave O’Brien noted that the rehab stint is “likely to be very brief,” which means that we’ll probably only see Kemp donning a G-Braves uniform for a game or two at the most. It would probably be a safe bet to say that Kemp will be back in the lineup by the time the weekend road trip to Philadelphia rolls around.

Atlanta’s offense has been pretty solid coming out of the gate, and Matt Kemp was a big reason for that in the early going. He had eight hits in 16 at-bats this season with four of those being doubles and two of those being home runs. Of course, we aren’t going to see him keep on hitting at that insane rate, but adding Kemp to this lineup will only boost the lineup’s offensive prowess so far.
