Gwinnett Braves 1, Rochester Red Wings 5
- Ozzie Albies, 2B: 1-4, BB,
- Lane Adams, RF: 2-4, RBI
- Sean Newcomb, SP: 4.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, 5.65 ERA
Sean Newcomb had a suboptimal first inning tonight walking the leadoff man, hitting the next batter Field, walking the next man to load the bases. Kennys Vargas hit a three-run triple off the top of the wall in dead center and was promptly knocked in by the next batter Palka. He induced three straight ground outs to end the awful first and only gave up one run, one walk and five strikeouts. David Peterson pitched two scoreless with three strikeouts and the game went into a rain delay in the bottom of the 7th.
Ozzie Albies singled in the 3rd inning to stretch his hitting streak to 11 games and is hitting .302 /.315/.480 on the young season. Lane Adams continued his hot streak knocking in Tuiasosopo in the 6th inning.
Next Game: 4/19 at 7:05 PM vs. Rochester. Probable Starter - Matt Wisler
Mississippi Braves 4, Mobile BayBears 2
- Dylan Moore, SS: 2-3, 2 RBI, HR
- Travis Demeritte, 2B: 1-3, BB
- Connor Lien, OF: 1-2, RBI, SB
- Kolby Allard, SP: 6.0 IP, 4 H, ER, BB, K
Kolby Allard continued his dominance of the Southern League lowering his ERA to 1.69, he gave up a solo home run to lead off the third inning and that was pretty much it for the BayBears. Allard only threw 71 pitches, 47 of them for strikes and had a pickoff. Michael Mader came on and pitched 2.2 innings of relief giving up a run to tie the game and eventually got the win. Akeel Morris faced one batter and struck him out to pick up the save, his fourth (4.1 IP, 4 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA)
Joey Meneses hit a solo shot in the 3rd and Dylan Moore hit a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 7th to put the Braves up for good. Luis Valenzuela continued his hot start, going 2 for 4.
Next Game: 4/19 at 11:35 AM vs. Mobile. Probable Starter - Matt Withrow
Florida Fire Frogs 5, Fort Myers Miracle 4
- Ronald Acuna, CF: 1-4, double, R, BB
- Alex Jackson, C: 2-5, RBI, R
- Austin Riley, 3B: 1-4, RBI, 2 R, 2B
- Drew Harrington, SP: 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 0 ER, BB, 5 K, 3.52 ERA
Drew Harrington had a solid start striking out five and only walking one in five efficient innings only throwing 74 pitches. He gave up two unearned runs after a strikeout turned into a man on third due to a throwing error by Alex Jackson. Jackson had two throwing errors in the game and is up to three on the season but it’s the first time he’s caught since 2014.
Ronald Acuna played in his second game in as many days after missing a few games after being hit on the hand with a pitch. He homered yesterday and doubled tonight so I think he’s going to be just fine. Carlos Castro had an RBI double in the 9th inning to put the Frogs up 5-3
Next Game: 4/19 at 6:35 PM @ Fort Myers. Probable Starter - Ricardo Sanchez
Rome Braves 3, Columbia Fireflies 8
- Juan Yepez, 3B: 1-3, R
- Brett Cumberland, DH: 1-2, RBI double
- Jeremy Walker, SP: 4.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 4.38 ERA
Jeremy Walker looked sharp for his 4.2 inning before turning it over to Thomas Burrows who continued his scoreless start to the season with a clean 1.1 innings of relief. Bladimir Matos came on in the 7th and loaded the bases with no outs, struck out the next two batters and then.. Tim Tebow came to bat. Tebow reached on an error, a run scores and the next batter hits a grand slam.
Brett Cumberland had an RBI double which hopefully can kick start him as he’s gotten off to a rough start to the year striking out 15 times in 31 at bats.
Next Game: 4/17 at 10:30 AM vs. Columbia. Probable Starter - Ian Anderson
