Opening day is here....kinda...at least kinda for Braves fans.
The Braves open their season tomorrow afternoon at the Mets, but today marks the first three games of the season with the Yankees vs. Rays, Giants vs. Diamondbacks, and, to mind the game of the day, the Cubs at the Cardinals tonight.
There will be lots of storylines this season both with the Braves as well as across the league. The Braves will look to defy expectations and seek to carry over the momentum from the last month or so of 2016. Dansby Swanson putting together a Rookie of the Year worthy season, Ender Inciarte playing well and getting another Gold Glove while patrolling roughly half the outfield, Freddie Freeman stitching together a big season again, and the rotation making big strides on the backs of Julio Teheran and Mike Foltynewicz will likely all need to happen in order to do just that.
The 2017 season will also mark the first season at SunTrust Park for the Braves and while the Braves don’t open their season there for a couple of weeks, there is a lot of excitement (and a fair bit of apprehension as well) surrounding the new park.
As for the league, with changes to the CBA as well as some of the rules of the game, the league will surely be watching to see how this season plays out...in particular in regards to the pace of play concerns that seem to be dominating the thinking of commissioner Rob Manfred’s thinking these days.
