Freddie Freeman, Braves look to avoid sweep against Nationals

Freddie Freeman looks to continue his hot streak against Stephen Strasburg.

The Atlanta Braves look to avoid a sweep Thursday night when they wrap up a three-game set against the Washington Nationals.

Atlanta dropped the first two games of the series including a stinker on Wednesday in a 14-4 loss that featured a pair of grand slam home runs from the Nationals. The Braves will send R.A. Dickey to the mound on Thursday in hopes of getting back in the win column. Dickey is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA in two starts this season.

Reinforcements could be on the way for Atlanta in the form of Matt Kemp who is eligible to return from the disabled list. Kemp went 1-for-3 for Gwinnett last night and appears to be ready to return.

Freddie Freeman continued his torrid start to the season on Wednesday going 2-for-3 with a homer and a walk while setting the Braves record for reaching base in consecutive at bats with 12. Freeman is 8-for-9 with three home runs and five RBIs over his last three games. He raised his career average against the Nationals to .331 with his two hit performance on Wednesday. Freeman is a career .394 hitter with four home runs off of Thursday’s starter Stephen Strasburg.
