The Atlanta Braves look to snap a three-game losing streak tonight when they open a three-game set in Philadelphia against the Phillies.
Atlanta had won five straight games to get back to the .500 mark before suffering a three-game sweep at the hands of the Washington Nationals. Atlanta will turn to Bartolo Colon who will be on the mound for Friday’s series opener.
Colon turned in a solid performance last time out pitching seven strong innings while allowing one hit and one run in a win over the Padres. He is 1-1 with a 4.24 ERA over his first three starts this season. Philadelphia will counter with Jeremy Hellickson who is 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA in his first three starts.
Matt Kemp returned to the Braves lineup on Thursday but went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Atlanta’s 3-2 loss to the Nationals. He appeared to be healthy and hopefully there aren’t any lingering effects from the hamstring injury that resulted in a trip to the disabled list.
Dansby Swanson was out of the Braves lineup on Thursday for the first time this season as he continues to try and work his way through some early season struggles. Swanson is slashing .131/.159/.197 through his first 15 games and has a BABIP of .159. He is expected to be back in there on Friday and hopefully a day off will be what was needed to get him going.
