Freddie Freeman’s late heroics helped the Atlanta Braves to a 10-8 win over the Milwaukee Brewers in Friday’s series opener. Atlanta trailed 4-0, rallied to tie it and then fell behind 8-4 before scoring six unanswered runs to claim their third straight victory.
Atlanta will try to make it four straight Saturday night when they send Jaime Garcia to the mound who is looking for his first victory in a Braves uniform. Garcia is 0-1 with a 4.24 ERA in four starts this season but has been solid over his last two and has been good in his career against the Brewers.
Garcia has allowed two runs in each of his last two starts and has a 2.88 ERA against Milwaukee in 20 career starts. Milwaukee will counter with right hander Jimmy Nelson who has struggled of late allowing 10 earned runs over his last two outings.
The Braves are hopeful to have second baseman Brandon Phillips back in the lineup for Saturday’s game. Phillips exited Wednesday’s win over the Mets in the first inning after injuring his groin on a stolen base attempt. He sat out Thursday’s game in New York and was also on the bench for Friday’s opener in Milwaukee although he did participate in batting practice prior to the game.
