After an oddly scheduled day off following a 6-0 loss to the New York Mets on Opening Day, the Braves will be back in action against the Mets on Wednesday evening and looking to receive another quality start from their pitching staff.
Bartolo Colon, who spent the last three seasons in orange and blue with the Mets, will make his first start at Citi Field since signing a one-year, $12.5 million contract with the Braves in November. Colon, whose start tonight will mark the beginning of his 20th season at the Major League level, posted a 3.92 ERA over his three seasons in New York. Don’t be surprised if you see a heavy dose of two-seam and four-seam fastballs from Bartolo tonight - “Big Sexy” threw fastballs 89 percent of the time last season.
Things don’t necessarily get any easier for Atlanta’s bats, who went up against Noah Syndergaard on Monday, as the Mets will send out Jacob deGrom to start on Wednesday. Last season, deGrom made 24 starts and compiled a 3.04 ERA. He’s made eight career starts against the Braves with a 1.90 ERA against them. Nick Markakis has proven to be the most successful hitter in Atlanta’s lineup thus far against deGrom as he’s a career 6-for-15 against the right-hander.
Albeit a moot point in light of the blowout loss, the Braves hung tight through the first 6 1⁄2 innings against New York on Monday before the bullpen collapsed to allow six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Lastly, if you’re in search of any extra motivation to watch the Braves tonight, look no further than this video that MLB tweeted out in February.

When Colon makes a start, it’s always must-see television. Hopefully today will prove to be no exception.
