R.A. Dickey will make his debut for the Atlanta Braves on Saturday when they continue their series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Dickey was originally scheduled to pitch Friday’s series opener but the Braves opted to push him back a day due to the cold temperatures. Dickey had an up and down spring for Atlanta but finished strong and will make his first National League start since 2012.
The Braves could be without the services of Matt Kemp who exited Friday’s game in the sixth inning with what was categorized as a “tight hamstring.” Brian Snitker told reporters that Kemp was considered day-to-day and that they would see what he felt like on Saturday before making a decision.
Kemp has been one of the team’s hottest hitters to start going 8-for-16 with four doubles and a pair of home runs.
The Pirates will counter with Chad Kuhl who had his first scheduled start of the season pushed back due to a rain out in Boston on Thursday. Kuhl went 5-4 last season with a 4.20 ERA in 14 starts. Saturday will be his first career start against Atlanta.
