The Atlanta Braves have acquired first baseman Matt Adams from the St. Louis Cardinals according to a report by Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The Braves confirmed the report moments later. Atlanta will be sending minor league infielder Juan Yepez to St. Louis.

Adams has appeared in 31 games with the Cardinals this season and has put up a .292/.340/.396 slash line. He spent the last six seasons with the Cardinals and has a career slash of .271/.315/.453. He will be under team control through the 2018 season. The Braves also received some cash from the Cardinals in the deal.

The Braves lost Freddie Freeman for 8-10 weeks due to a fractured wrist earlier this week. They also signed free agent James Loney who has since reported to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Yepez is a 19-year old infielder who was playing at Rome. He was slashing .275/.309/.387 to go along with one home run and 15 RBIs.
