Bartolo Colon will make his return tomorrow against the Padres

We finally have some certainty as to what is going on with Bartolo in the Braves’ rotation

MLB: Philadelphia Phillies at Atlanta Braves Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

The Braves rotation has had quite the struggles this season and no pitcher in the rotation has struggled as much as Bartolo Colon. Before getting put on the disabled list, Colon had posted a 7.78 ERA for the Braves to go along with a better, but still not good, 5.13 FIP. His ERA is easily a career high for him and his FIP was the worst he had posted since 2009. These things are not good.

However, after extending his stint on the disabled list a bit, it looks like the Braves are going to go through with their plans to use a six man rotation including Bartolo, at least for the short term.

Snitker announced the plans to start Bartolo tomorrow before the game today and honestly, it is a best case scenario for Colon’s return. Bartolo will be away from the confines of SunTrust Park where Braves fans have become impatient (to be kind) with the veteran’s struggles and will be pitching in one of the more pitcher friendly parks in the league in Petco Park.

It is unclear how much of a leash Bartolo is going to be given both in his start as well as in the rotation going forward, but for now at least....Bartolo is in the rotation. It is possible the Braves are just trying to extract at least SOME value out of Colon and/or showcase him for teams that could be willing to trade for him at the trade deadline.
