If all goes well, Freddie Freeman could be back in the Atlanta Braves lineup next week against the Washington Nationals. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's David O'Brien reports that Freeman will take part in live batting practice Wednesday in San Diego and if all goes well will begin a rehab assignment on Saturday with Gwinnett.
Freeman was originally expected to miss at least 10 weeks with his fractured left wrist. Barring a setback Freeman will be back in just over seven.
O'Brien also reports that when Freeman does return he will do so as the team's third baseman. He again took ground balls at third base prior to Tuesday's series opener against San Diego. Freeman pitched the idea of moving to third as a way to keep Matt Adams in the lineup after he returns.
