This game was suspended in the 5th inning due to rain with Gwinnett leading by the score of 5-2. Manny Barreda had pitched a pretty solid four innings for Gwinnett, but the real strength of this game came from the offense as Rio Ruiz had a really good game thus far in reaching base three times and driving in two of Gwinnett’s runs. As for Ronald Acuna, he simply will not be denied as he connected for a solo homer. His line on the year (across three levels) currently sits at .317/.372/.521 with 17 home runs, 64 RBIs, 73 runs scored, and 37 stolen bases in 461 at-bats to go along with six outfield assists. That is quite good.
Florida Fire Frogs 2, Tampa Yankees 8

Tough game for Florida as Tampa jumped all over Raymar Navarro early in this one and despite the Florida bullpen coming in and settling things down, the damage was done as the Frogs fell 8-2. While the game was a night to forget for Navarro, Junior Rincon deserves a tip of the cap as he came in and threw 5 1⁄3 innings in relief and gave up just an unearned run on three hits and two walks. On offense, Anfernee Seymour extended his hitting streak to eight games with another multi-hit effort as he looks to finish the season as hot as he started the year. Ray-Patrick Didder had a RBI double and Brett Cumberland is slumping a bit. After his 0-4 performance, he is batting just .129 over his last 10 games.
Rome Braves 4, Asheville Tourists 6 - F/17

In what seems like a weekly occurrence, Rome played a bunch of extra-innings in this one and despite some scoring chances they could not close the deal as Rome fell in 17 innings by the score of 6-4. The duo of Walter Borkovich and Jon Kennedy out of the Rome bullpen deserve some love as they combined to throw seven innings and gave up just five hits while striking out eight batters. Borkovich in particular is a guy to watch as he has been flat out dominant in both rookie ball as well as for Rome and could be on a similar trajectory as Corbin Clouse if things go his way. Isranel Wilson, Cristian Pache, Lucas Herbert, and Kurt Hoekstra all recorded multi-hit games and Rome certainly had their chances to steal this one late in the game, but going 3 for 10 with runners in scoring position combined with a lack of power proved damning for the Braves.
Danville Braves 2, Burlington Royals 6

Newish Brave Huascar Ynoa struggled to find the strike zone in this one as Danville fell by the score of 6-2. Ynoa has had a tough time with walks this season, especially since joining the Braves as he now has nine walks in 14 1⁄3 innings with the organization. Drew Waters just keeps hitting, but will need to limit his swings and misses especially over good breaking balls in order for his significant upside to play at the plate as he advances in the minors. Jean Carlos Encarnacion, in addition to William Contreras who also recorded a hit in this game, may be the surprise of the season out of rookie ball as he extended his hitting streak to 13 games. He has recorded a hit in every game he has played since being promoted from Danville and looked good both at the plate and in the field in our looks at him when he was in the GCL.

The GCL Braves lost a close one here as they fell to one of the Yankees’ rookie ball affiliates by the score of 4-3. Yunior Severino has hits in three straight games and has been regularly productive at the heart of this lineup. The strikeouts are a bit concerning, but our looks at him showed him working a lot of deep counts and if he can just hone his eye a bit more, those should start to come down as he stops trying to making pitchers pay with two strikes and simply take what they give him. Zack Soria had himself a game with a pair of hits including a double and Braulio Vazquez got back on track with a hit and and RBI, his first since his hitting streak ended a few games ago.
