Atlanta’s win on Sunday helped the Washington Nationals clinch the NL East division which got me thinking about a good topic for Monday’s off day.
What looked like a two horse race to the World Series for most of the season suddenly appears to be wide open. The Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Dodgers both ran away from the pack early but have fallen back to earth in the second half. Los Angeles still has a healthy lead in NL West but have lost 10 straight and 15 of 16 and hardly resemble the team that looked like they might win 120 games at the midpoint of the season.
Elsewhere in the NL, the Milwaukee Brewers may have lost Jimmy Nelson for the remainder of the season but they just completed a three-game sweep of the Cubs to draw within two games of the central division lead. The Cardinals are right there as well with both just three back in the wild card race behind Colorado.
The Cleveland Indians have won 18 straight and have passed the Astros for the best record in the American League. In addition, it looks like the race for the final wild card spot in the AL might go down to the wire with six teams still within 3.5 games of the final spot.
So tonight’s question: Who do you think will make the playoffs? Who reaches the World Series? Who wins it all?
