Braves look to continue hot streak vs. Mets

The Braves are 7-3 in their last 10 games as the youth movement has made it to Atlanta.

MLB: New York Mets at Atlanta Braves Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The Braves are now a far cry from .500 baseball after being 45-45 at one point earlier this season but have really put together a couple of good games of late. Sean Newcomb dominated the Mets in last night’s game and the Braves, thanks to some good bullpen work, pulled out the win. The Braves will send R.A. Dickey to the mound to face the Mets ace Jacob DeGrom on Saturday. Dickey has been one of Atlanta’s most consistent starters this season and the same can be said for DeGrom and his 221 strikeouts on the season.

R.A. has been very effective for the Braves this season with a 9-9 record, a 4.28 ERA and a 4.76 xFIP. He has been worth 1.3 WAR this season which is second best among pitchers on the Braves staff to Mike Foltynewicz(1.8). R.A. is looking to become the third Braves pitcher this season with at least 10 wins and walks have either made or broken Dickey this season. R.A. has given up at least 5 runs in his last 2 starts and in each of those starts he has walked 3 men. Dickey has been good against his former team this season and hasn’t allowed more than 3 runs in either start against the Mets this season. After having trouble earlier in the season Dickey has controlled home runs allowed as well as a knuckler can hope to and this has been key for him in wins and losses this season.

The Braves will face off with familiar foe, right-hander Jacob DeGrom. DeGrom isn’t exactly a Cy Young candidate this season but he has been eating up a ton of quality innings for the injury riddled Mets this season. He is 14-9 and is sitting just 3 innings shy of his personal best in innings pitched at 191. In his career DeGrom is 4-3 vs the Braves with a 2.29 ERA. He has been struggling of late however with a 6.32 ERA over his last 2 games. DeGrom is a constant threat to have a great game though, as while in even a down year he has posted 221 strikeouts.
