R.A. Dickey allowed eight hits and six earned runs in just 4 1/3 innings as the Atlanta Braves opened their homestand with an 8-2 loss to the Texas Rangers.
Brad is joined by TC's own Gaurav Vedak to discuss Freddie Freeman's wrist, the (near) end of the Minor League season, Max Fried's first start and much more.
The Atlanta Braves added Adonis Garcia and Micah Johnson to their active roster on Monday. The team elected to have Johan Camargo play in one more minor league game but is expected to be activated on Tuesday. Danny Santana was also expected to rejoin the team this week but had to leave his rehab start on Sunday after re-aggravating his quad injury.
When Brandon Phillips was traded it was initially thought that Camargo would see the majority of the playing time at third base. However, Rio Ruiz has gotten off to a hot start since being recalled and Brian Snitker says Camargo will be worked in sparingly due to the fact that he is still not 100 percent.
“He’s probably not going to split time,” Snitker said of Camargo. “He’ll be worked in. He’s another one that’s not physically able to go out and play five games in a row, three games in a row. So probably just pick and choose. There will be no structure. He’ll get time at the end of a game, double switches, defensive moves, stuff like that, pinch-hitting. But right now, to say he can come in and play every day is a probably a little bit far-fetched.”
Many people questioned throughout the season whether the Pittsburgh Pirates would pick up Clint Hurdle’s option for 2018. However, they did one better working out a four-year extension with Hurdle that will keep him in Pittsburgh through 2021.
Giants reliever Mark Melancon will undergo surgery on his right forearm and will miss the remainder of the season.
