Braves appear to be at least listening to offers for Dansby Swanson, per report

The Braves seem to be pivoting some discussions towards a certain polarizing shortstop. That said, nothing seems remotely close.

There is no question that the Braves are buyers this offseason. They have already brought in Josh Donaldson on a big one-year deal and they remain one of the favorites both to win the NL East next season as well as to continue to make roster additions.

However, that does not mean that they will not listen on some members of their major league roster. We have already seen rumors swirling about Ender Inciarte, Mike Foltynewicz, and Sean Newcomb coming out of the Winter Meetings. While those rumors have varying degrees of likelihood, they do seem to show that the Braves are examining all of their options.

Speaking of which, here is another interesting tidbit.

A couple of things here: first, of course the Braves are going to get inquiries about Ozziie Albies. While he fell off in the second half, in the first half he was an absolute monster and he still provided strong defensive value at second base all season long. He is one of the young players the Braves seem like they want to build around and other teams are going to be rightly interested in him.

That said, Bowman’s reporting is interesting that instead of shutting the door to conversations completely, the Braves have instead been pivoting towards moving Dansby Swanson in these discussions. While Bowman is quick to note that there are some in the organization that don’t necessarily want to move Dansby and it doesn’t sound like anything is close, that this is even out there as an option is a new development. Given the presence of Johan Camargo on the roster and Dansby’s struggles at the plate, it also may make some sense for the Braves to see what offers exist out there for Dansby as well even if they decide to keep him in the fold.
