Mike Foltynewicz looks to keep momentum rolling against Philadelphia

After Nick Markakis set off the fireworks on Opening Day the Braves now turn to flamethrower Mike Foltynewicz looking for the first series win of 2018.

The Braves will look to capture a series win as they face the Phillies and starter Nick Pivetta Friday night. The young right hander from New Mexico was originally drafted by the Washington Nationals in 2013 before being traded to the Phillies in 2015. He made his Major League debut last season and predictably struggled to begin with but was able to finish the season with a 16-inning scoreless streak to post a collective 1.1 WAR.

He goes toe-to-toe with the Braves very own exciting young flamethrower Mike Foltynewicz who is beginning his fourth season in an Atlanta uniform after a nice improvement in 2017. Last season, while starting 28 games for the Braves, “Folty” (as he’s become affectionately known) was able to pick up 143 strikeouts in 154 innings while posting the highest WAR of his career to date of 1.8, good enough to rank 1st among Braves pitchers.

Atlanta will try their best to top last night’s epic performance and wrap up their very first series win of the new season. Stay tuned!
