Update - Luiz Gohara’s rehab start on Tuesday will be for Double-A Mississippi instead of Gwinnett. Mike Soroka is scheduled to pitch for the Stripers on Tuesday and the team didn’t want to disrupt him.

Luiz Gohara will make his season debut in a rehab start for Gwinnett on Tuesday. Gohara was sidelined early on in spring with a strained hamstring and then suffered a sprained ankle just two days before his first scheduled spring start.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s David O’Brien reports that Gohara is scheduled to pitch four innings or about 65 pitches. The Braves will stretch him out at Gwinnett with him building to 95-100 pitches before he is ready to be activated.

At that point, the Braves will have to make a decision on how to make room for him. The rotation has been solid in the early going with Anibal Sanchez performing well as the team’s fifth starter. Brandon McCarthy had an injury scare last time out but is reportedly set to make his next start against the Phillies.

Gohara was the odds on favorite to be Atlanta’s fifth starter entering spring training before the injuries set him back. To this point he has only pitched in simulated-games or in extended spring training games. So it may take a little time to get him back ready to go.
