Video: Braves react to weather, loss to Cubs

Lets never speak of this game again.

MLB: Atlanta Braves at Chicago Cubs Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Braves suffered an embarrassing and disappointing loss on Saturday blowing a 10-2 lead thanks to an eighth inning bullpen implosion. The game was played in obscene weather conditions with cold temps, rain and high winds. That contributed to a 35 minute half inning in which nine runs scored thanks to seven walks, two hit batters and an error. The loss overshadows good performances good performances by Sean Newcomb and Ozzie Albies.

Sean Newcomb turned in another solid performance allowing six hits and two earned runs over 5.1 innings. After struggling in the opener, he showed a lot of poise picking up a win at Coors Field and what should have been another win today at Wrigley.

Ozzie Albies has been on fire and is turning heads around the league including that of Giants outfielder Andrew McCutchin. Albies talked about his hot start prior to the game with Fox Sports’ Kelsey Wingert.

Right on queue, Albies stepped to the plate and launched a leadoff home run, his fifth of the year.

Albies wasn’t done with that homer. He would finish the day 3-for-5 with a homer, a double and 4 RBI.

Not pictured was three more hits and two RBIs for Dansby Swanson who continued his hot start. the meltdown was on from there and the series is scheduled to wrap up on Sunday weather permitting.

Brian Snitker meets with the media following the game and discusses the weather conditions along with how things unraveled for the Braves at the end.

How bad were the weather conditions? Look at this throw from Albies.

Even Cubs manager Joe Maddon recognized that this was a game that should have never been played.

Freddie Freeman sympathized with the bullpen saying that the infielders couldn’t even throw the ball between innings.

Sam Freeman entered the game in the eighth and walked all three batters he faced. He wasn’t ready to blame his performance on the weather.

Peter Moylan sums up this game pretty well.
