Braves roll with their regulars in series opener

Hoping to shake off any bad juju from their trip to Chicago, the Braves will go with the following lineup for their opening tilt against the Phillies:

This Opening Day rematch will send Aaron Nola to the hill for Philadelphia. Freddie Freeman and Nick Markakis, who will hit 3 and 4 for the Braves today, have the highest level of success against Nola of all current Braves regulars. In 20 plate appearances, Freeman carries a .353/.450/.647/1.097 slash with a home run and only two strikeouts, while Markakis brings a .263/.333/.579/.912 line and two home runs in 21 PAs. Ender Inciarte, who is back at the top of the lineup after a much-needed off-day, is the only other Brave with meaningful appearances against Nola, hitting .250 with a .550 OPS in 20 plate appearances.

Dansby Swanson and Kurt Suzuki have identical .286/.286/.429/.714 slash lines against Nola, with seven at-bats apiece.

It’s always an adventure at SunTrust when Julio Teheran takes the mound. Which Julio will we get today? Regardless of which one shows up, he will face the Phillies in this order:

Teheran has plenty of experience against this Phillies roster, and has managed to mostly keep them in check. Over 20 career appearances (19 starts), he holds a career 8-6 record along with a 3.52 ERA and 1.125 WHIP.

Among the starters, Carlos Santana saw Teheran for the first time on Opening Day and went 0-for-3. Rhys Hoskins has made the most of his nine plate appearances to the tune of .375/.444/.625/1.069 slash.

Neither Odubel Herrera (.511 OPS) nor Aaron Altherr (.652 OPS), who find themselves in the thick of the order today, have fared well against Teheran, so hopefully Julio can use this to his advantage. Maikel Franco, batting 7th, has done OK for himself, batting .333 over 30 career at-bats.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:35pm EST.
