In an interview this morning with Sirius XM’s Craig Mish, Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos alluded to the fact that the team isn’t only focused on nearing a promotion of top prospect Ronald Acuña Jr. but also top pitching prospect Mike Soroka.

With Acuña’s strong last couple of games there is no doubt he is on the cusp of his promotion. The 20-year-old Acuña has torn up every level of the Atlanta minor league system in route to becoming the best prospect in baseball. He hit his 30th career minor league home run last night in Gwinnett’s win over the Railriders. Acuña has been striking out at a career-high rate this season at AAA, but also boasts a career-high walk rate as pitchers attempt to pitch around him.
Soroka has been equally as impressive at Gwinnett so far this season. Soroka has breezed through the minor leagues and like Acuña is only 20 years old. The big right-hander has a 2.87 ERA for Gwinnett over three games this season and has struck out 20 batters in just 15 and 2⁄3 innings.
Both Soroka and Acuña Jr. look ready for the show and according to their GM, Braves fans won’t have to wait much longer for them to make it. Stay tuned.
