It is time Braves fans. Ronald Acuña Jr. has been selected from AAA Gwinnett and will make his Major League debut today. Acuña is the number one overall prospect in baseball according to Baseball America and has long been regarded as a generational talent. Get excited and make sure to go ahead and purchase tickets for the Giants series coming up if there are any left.
The Braves were no-hit for the first six innings of last night’s game. Despite getting the offense started late Atlanta still played the Reds to a draw sending the game into extra innings. It turned out to be too-little, too-late though as Scooter Gennett hit a walk-off home run to hand the Braves their second straight loss to Cincy.
What once was a strength for the Braves in the early going of 2018 has become one of their biggest weaknesses. The root of the problem is turning out to be walks as the Atlanta pen now owns the highest BB/9 rate in the entire league by a good margin. Regression was always a possibility but is this the new reality?
On Monday Jenny Cavnar made history by becoming the third female broadcaster in history to do play-by-play of a Major League game. Calling the Rockies game in the absence of Drew Goodman, Cavnar showed why more women deserve to get the chance to call baseball games in the future.
