The Atlanta Braves will add a fresh arm to the bullpen in time for Friday’s series opener against Philadelphia. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports that Chase Whitley will join the Atlanta bullpen on Friday.

Whitley entered spring training as a favorite to earn a spot in the bullpen before a staph infection landed him on the disabled list. Since returning, he has allowed two runs in 8.1 innings at Triple-A Gwinnett. Atlanta claimed Whitley off of waivers during the offseason with the idea that he could serve as a long-man or multi-inning relief option.

The corresponding move has not been revealed but it could be that Max Fried will be headed back to Gwinnett to return to a starting role.
