The Atlanta Braves are getting closer to getting a key player back in the lineup. Shortstop Dansby Swanson will head to Rome on Thursday to begin a rehab assignment according to a report by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s David O’Brien and could be back in the Braves lineup as soon as this weekend.

Swanson last played on May 2 when he exited the game late due to a a sore wrist. After a couple of days of rest, the Braves opted to go ahead and place him on the disabled list. He missed all of Atlanta’s previous road trip but began hitting this week and is reportedly progressing well towards a return.

With Gwinnett on the road this weekend, Swanson may play in a couple of games for Rome and then if he feels good physically, return sometime during this weekend’s series against the Marlins.

Swanson has appeared in 28 games this season and is hitting .289/.336/.430 with two home runs. Johan Camargo has seen the bulk of playing time at short during his absence.
