Mike Soroka placed on 10-day DL with shoulder strain, Max Fried to start tonight

Mike Soroka has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a shoulder strain. Max Fried will start tonight against the Cubs.

Soroka hadn’t show any visible signs of ailment during his most recent start in Miami. The Braves made the move retroactive to May 14^th so he will be available to come off the DL on May 24^th. Shoulder injuries are always a concern, but Mark Bowman reports “the early thought is (Soroka) will be ready to make his next start.”

Soroka owns a 3.68 ERA and 2.80 FIP with strong strikeout and walk numbers through three starts. The 20-year-old never battled shoulder problems in the minor leagues.

Some have pointed out that this may be roster-manipulation by Alex Anthopoulos in an effort to limit Soroka’s innings, which is entirely possible. Anthpoulos and the Dodgers regularly used the 10-day DL to their advantage last season and frequently placed pitchers on there to limit innings.

Fried has bounced between three levels this year. He most recently started with Gwinnett on May 11^th and tossed four innings of three-run ball with five strikeouts and three walks. He threw 73 pitches and should be fully rested for tonight.
