Atlanta Braves zoom into top 10 for 2018 World Series odds

Hmmm....

At the end of April, the Atlanta Braves were 16-11 and, given modest preseason expectations, it was a very promising start for Brian Snitker’s team. Still, it was quite early in the calendar to be getting too excited about a run to the playoffs and, as a result, off-shore bookmaker Bovada installed the Braves as 70-1 long shots to claim World Series glory.

Fast-forward one month, though, and the Braves are now 20-1.

The good folks at Bovada provided an updated list of 2018 World Series odds on Friday and, as of June 1, the Braves now have the 10th-best odds to win the title. Teams like the Astros, Yankees and Red Sox are no-doubt inclusions at the top of the list but only nine teams are seen as more likely to win than Atlanta, with a few previously favored clubs landing behind the Braves in the pecking order.

It should be noted that at least some of this stems from Atlanta’s massive fan base and, by proxy, increased betting attention when compared to a “normal” club. Still, the team’s playoff odds (from a statistical projection standpoint) have also skyrocketed and, with every passing day, the Braves appear more and more legitimate as a playoff-level squad.

Here is the full list of current odds, per Bovada:

Houston Astros 9/2

New York Yankees 5/1

Boston Red Sox 13/2

Washington Nationals 17/2

Milwaukee Brewers 11/1

Cleveland Indians 12/1

Chicago Cubs 15/1

Los Angeles Dodgers 16/1

Arizona Diamondbacks 18/1

Atlanta Braves 20/1

Colorado Rockies 22/1

Los Angeles Angels 25/1

St. Louis Cardinals 25/1

Philadelphia Phillies 26/1

Seattle Mariners 28/1

San Francisco Giants 33/1

New York Mets 35/1

Pittsburgh Pirates 45/1

Minnesota Twins 66/1

Toronto Blue Jays 70/1

Oakland Athletics 85/1
