Atlanta Braves News
Tyler Flowers drove in three runs and the Atlanta Braves pounded out 14 hits in a 5-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Five different Braves had at least two hits including three-hit games by Freddie Freeman and Charlie Culberson.
Brian Snitker announced on Saturday that Mike Soroka will be activated from the disabled list on Wednesday and will start against the Mets. Soroka is on the DL due to shoulder inflammation and has made two rehab appearances, one at Rome and another at Gwinnett.
Ozzie Albies went 0-for-5 in Saturday’s game but Freddie Freeman tells the AJC’s David O’Brien that he will be fine.
“You’re going to go through ups and downs as a young player, and even as a veteran guy,” said Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman, the National League leader in OBP (.430) and OPS (.990) and a player who has learned through the years how to shorten the length of his slumps. “Ozzie knows what he can do and he knows he’s going to come out of it. I think when you start having so much success you want to keep that success going, and sometimes you can put a little too much pressure on yourself.”
An MRI exam on Washington Nationals’ pitcher Stephen Strasburg’s right shoulder revealed no structural damage but he is headed to the 10-day disabled list anyway with shoulder inflammation. There is no timetable for his return.
Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes left Saturday’s rehab outing after just two innings due to tightness in his quad. Cespedes has been on the DL since May 14 and was eyeing a return for Tuesday’s game in Atlanta. No word on whether this latest setback will alter those plans.
