Culberson’s homer the deciding blow in 1-0 win against Padres
Charlie Culberson’s solo home run was all the offense the Braves needed to secure a 1-0 win over the San Diego Padres on Saturday. Sean Newcomb struck out seven and allowed just two hits over six shutout innings in the victory. Thanks to a Nationals’ loss, the Braves increased their lead in the NL East to 2.5 games.
Braves place Mike Foltynewicz on the DL, activate Julio Teheran
The Atlanta Braves placed right-hander Mike Foltynewicz on the 10-day disabled list Saturday and activated Julio Teheran who is slated to start Sunday’s game against the Padres. The move will give Foltynewicz an additional day off but he is likely to return on June 23 against the Orioles.
Ronald Acuna will work out in Florida prior to rehab assignment
Ronald Acuna ran the bases at SunTrust Park on Saturday and pronounced himself “ready to go” to manager Brian Snitker. The plan now is for Acuna to travel to Orlando to work out at the Braves’ extended spring training facility on Tuesday. After that he will begin a rehab assignment before rejoining the club.
Sean Newcomb strives to achieve All-Star dream
Sean Newcomb turned in another spectacular performance on Saturday and told the AJC’s Gabriel Burns that he has his eye on a spot in the 2018 MLB All-Star Game.
“It’s hard not to (think about the All-Star game) when everyone’s talking about it,” he said. “You see the banners everywhere. It’s something cool to think about, something cool to strive for. But it’s not something I think about start-to-start. Just something cool to dream about.”

Evan Longoria Diagnosed With Fractured Finger
San Francisco Giants’ third baseman Evan Longoria will undergo surgery on his fractured finger Tuesday and is expected to miss six to eight weeks.
Angels Activate Andrelton Simmons
Andrelton Simmons returned to the Angels’ lineup on Saturday after missing just two days with what was thought at the time to be a significant ankle injury. Simmons suffered the injury after slipping on the dugout steps and was diagnosed with a grade 2 sprain but is apparently recovered enough to return.
