Braves look to keep it going Saturday against Nationals

Brandon McCarthy will try to nail down a series win for the Braves on Saturday.

The Atlanta Braves look to keep it going on Saturday when they continue their four-game series against the Washington Nationals. Atlanta won the first two games of the series including a 4-0 win on Friday that featured a dominant performance by Mike Foltynewicz.

Brandon McCarthy will be on the mound for the Braves on Saturday and will be looking for a bounce back performance. McCarthy allowed nine hits and five runs over 5 1/3 innings last time out against the Mets. McCarthy posted a 3.04 ERA in April but it has ballooned to 7.46 in May. He faced the Nationals back on April 11 and allowed four hits and one run over five innings.

The Nationals will counter with left hander Gio Gonzalez who has been lights out so far in 2018. Gonzalez comes into Saturday with a 2.10 ERA and has allowed two earned runs or less in 10 of his 11 starts this season. He allowed six hits over 7 2/3 shutout innings in his last start against Baltimore. Gonzalez however has struggled in his career against Atlanta posting a 5.11 ERA in 21 career games.
