Lucas Sims recalled from Gwinnett, Preston Tucker optioned

The Braves got some much needed pitching reinforcements today.

MLB: Spring Training-Philadelphia Phillies at Atlanta Braves Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

The Braves announced prior to today’s game that they have recalled right handed pitcher Lucas Sims from Triple-A Gwinnett and optioned outfielder Preston Tucker as the corresponding move.

After last night’s marathon game it was apparent that the Braves needed reinforcements in the bullpen badly. Lucas Sims has pitched in five games this season for the Braves and has a 6.75 ERA and 6.31 FIP. Sims is 6-2 and normally sits 92-95 with a sweeping slider.

Preston Tucker will get some much needed playing time at Gwinnett to hopefully get back on track. Tucker has appeared in 56 games for the Braves this season and sports a .250 average and a 91 wRC+ after his hot start to the season. This will be his first playing time with Gwinnett this season and should be a good opportunity for him.

This is strictly an emergency pen move after last night and hopefully Julio Teheran will be able to go deep today.
