Atlanta Braves News
The Atlanta Braves avoided what would have been an embarrassing sweep with a 7-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. Ozzie Albies had three more hits while Dansby Swanson hit a pinch hit home run in the eighth to help secure the win.
Ronald Acuña Jr. will continue his rehab assignment for the time being and likely won’t be activated until the later part of the week. Braves’ manager Brian Snitker told MLB.com’s Mark Bowman that everything is going good but the club won’t rush Acuña back.
“We’re still evaluating,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said following Sunday’s 7-3 winover the Orioles. “He’s feeling good, but we’re still talking to the doctors about when is the right time. We don’t want to rush him back. We want to make sure everything is healed.”
The Braves placed closer Arodys Vizcaino on the 10-day disabled list Sunday due to persistent soreness in his shoulder. Vizcaino has battled the soreness all week and Atlanta finally made the roster move prior to Sunday’s game. The Braves promoted RHP Evan Phillips from Triple-A Gwinnett to take Vizcaino’s spot on the roster.
With Vizcaino sidelined, Daniel Winkler and A.J. Minter will see the bulk of action in save situations.
Evan Phillips had been turning heads at Gwinnett, now he will get his shot to do so in the majors. Garrett Spain takes a closer look at what he brings to the table and what Braves fans should expect.
The AJC’s Gabriel Burns caught up with Phillips and talked to him about his promotion.
“It meant everything,” Phillips said. “I don’t want to say I was expecting it, I was just trying to work on my craft down there in (Triple-A) Gwinnett. I was trying to be ready whenever that call did come, and I was happy it did.”
In one of the most bazaar stories of the season, Hanley Ramirez is not under federal and state investigation. ABC News first reported that Ramirez was the subject of such an investigation but the Boston Globe debunked that report on Sunday with the real story.
Ken Rosenthal reports that the San Diego Padres are showing interest in Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Maikel Franco but that a deal may be hard to come by.
