The Atlanta Braves return to action Friday night when they begin a 10-game road trip with a three-game set in St. Louis against the Cardinals. The Braves are looking to snap out of a recent funk where they have lost 5-of-7 including a 2-4 homestand against the Baltimore Orioles and Cincinnati Reds. Atlanta still holds a two-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East standings but this is a big road trip coming up.
Friday night will mark the return of Ronald Acuña Jr. to the lineup after he missed about a month with a knee injury. Acuña was activated from the disabled list on Thursday as Atlanta juggled its roster again.
Julio Teheran will get the start in Friday’s opener and will be looking to bounce back from one of his worst starts of the season. Teheran lasted just 4 2/3 innings in his last start against the Orioles allowing six hits and seven runs. Teheran has been a much better pitcher on the road this season where he has posted a 3.79 ERA in seven starts.
The Cardinals will counter with right hander Miles Mikolas who is off to a good start so far in 2018. Mikolas allowed three hits and two runs over 6 2/3 innings in his last outing against Milwaukee. He has a 2.69 ERA in 15 starts and has allowed just 10 earned runs total in his last five starts.
