Max Fried draws the start in game two against the Cardinals

The Braves big lefty will get his first start after some extended time with Gwinnett.

The Braves are riding high after their strong win in game one of the series last night. Julio Teheran went 5 strong innings and Johan Camargo had 3 hits and 3 RBI to lead Atlanta to a 5-1 win over the red birds.

In order to win again today the Braves will have to go through Cardinals right-hander Luke Weaver. Weaver is 4-6 on the season with a 4.59 ERA and has struggled at times to keep the ball inside the yard. Before his last start against Milwaukee Weaver had a seven start winless streak going and the Braves will look to put him back on track with that today.

Atlanta will send out top prospect Max Fried who has already spent some time with the Braves this season. Over 11 innings at the major league level Fried has allowed 5 earned runs but struck out 13 batters. Fried’s biggest key is to keep his walks down and for his fastball to have movement which has been happening at Gwinnett lately as he looks like the Braves prospect that was flat out dominant in the Arizona Fall League just last year.

Fried has faced the Cardinals one time in his major league career and Weaver has never faced the Braves before so today should be interesting. A winning streak would definitely be something Atlanta needs to get on as they begin this long 10-game road trip.

The key to Weaver is jumping on him early and often so hopefully the Braves can do so and give Max Fried some extra breathing room early on.
