Mike Foltynewicz, Braves look to secure series win in San Diego

Mike Foltynewicz looks to keep it going Wednesday versus the Padres.

The Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres will meet again Wednesday afternoon in the rubber match of a three-game series at Petco Park. The Padres took the first game 11-4 on Monday while Atlanta bounced back in a big way with a 14-1 rout on Tuesday.

Mike Foltynewicz will be on the mound for the Braves and is coming off one of the best starts of his career. Folty sput a two-hit complete-game shutout and equaled a career-high with 11 strikeouts in his last outing against the Nationals. For the season, he has a 2.22 ERA and has allowed two earned runs or less in 11 of his 12 starts.

The Padres will have a bullpen day on Wednesday with lefty Matt Strahm getting the start. Strahm pitched a scoreless inning in Monday’s game against Atlanta and hasn’t allowed a run in his last three appearances. He also hasn’t gone longer than two innings in any game this season. He has a 2.92 ERA in nine games overall this season.
