The first game against the Dodgers did not go very well for the visiting Braves who allowed 5 solo shots to the blue crew in a 7-3 loss. Brandon McCarthy could fool no one and did not make it to five innings before having to exit the game. Today Anibal Sanchez will hope for some better luck when he gets his first taste of the suddenly surging Dodgers.
Sanchez has gotten off to a good start with the Braves at 1-0 with a 2.16 ERA but seemingly has benefited from some good luck with a 4.84 FIP to prove it. Over his 25 innings this season he has amassed 21 strikeouts to 9 walks and sports a pretty solid line for a guy left out to dry in Spring Training.
His opponent is set to be former Braves pitcher Alex Wood. The former UGA stud is quite the opposite of Sanchez as he sports a high ERA of 4.48 but a lower FIP of 3.52 suggesting he has been unlucky so far. Wood owns 60 strikeouts over 64 innings this season and the lefty is bound to bounce back at some point.
For the Braves sake lets hope Wood’s breakout game doesn’t come today.
