Sanchez looks to continue magical season in game one against Diamondbacks

Anibal Sanchez is really having a phenomenal season at 34-years-old.

MLB: Atlanta Braves at Milwaukee Brewers Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

It is no secret that Anibal Sanchez was not expected to be on this team long term in 2018, but he has pitched himself into a solid lock within the Braves starting rotation.

At 34-years-old Sanchez is having a fantastic rebound year and is pitching to the tune of a 2.72 ERA coming into his matchup with the Arizona club tonight. Sanchez has been showing off some pinpoint command this season for the Braves and is having success on the outside parts of the plate using his cutter and changeup to perfection.

Atlanta’s opponent for tonight’s game will be Zach Godley who hasn’t necessarily had as much luck this season as Sanchez. Godley is walking nearly five men per nine innings and has an ERA of 4.80 to match. Godley is making his first start in a week after being forced into relief during the Diamondbacks 16 inning affair with the Dodgers on Sunday. Godley is also having a hard time keeping the ball in the park this season and walks followed by home runs are a bad way to try and win games at SunTrust Park.

The Braves could use a nice series win before heading into the All-Star break and Arizona hasn’t exactly been the hottest team in baseball lately. It should be a pretty solid matchup and a good test for the Braves as these two 50 win teams do battle in Atlanta.
