Atlanta’s offensive slump continued on Saturday in a 3-0 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Braves finished with just five hits against Zach Greinke and company and have now lost eight of their last 10 games.
Prior to Saturday’s game, Atlanta placed closer Arodys Vizcaino on the 10-day disabled list due to right shoulder inflammation. This is Vizcaino’s second DL trip with shoulder issues in the last three weeks. Atlanta activated Peter Moylan from the disabled list to take Vizcaino’s spot on the roster.
The Atlanta Braves will have two representatives in the 2018 Futures Game on Sunday after Touki Toussaint was added to the World Team roster as a replacement for Indians prospect Francisco Mejia who was promoted.
Brian Snitker discussed Atlanta’s pitching plans following the All-Star break. Sean Newcomb, Anibal Sanchez and Julio Teheran are likely to start the first series in Washington with Mike Foltynewicz set to begin the opener in Miami. Luiz Gohara or Max Fried could be options to start the second game of the Marlins series.
ESPN.com’s Buster Olney reports that Manny Machado trade talks are progressing and that Baltimore is motivated to get a deal done. Per the report, the Orioles are narrowing their focus to a smaller group of teams with the Phillies and the Brewers reportedly the frontrunners.
Tampa Bay catcher Wilson Ramos is expected to sit out Tuesday’s All-Star Game and will require a DL stint for a hamstring injury.
