The 2018 Futures Game was noteworthy if for no other reason being that home runs were launched at a prodigious rate throughout the game from both sides. There were a total of eight homers hit in the game and Peter Alonso hit one that I am not sure has landed yet.
While the Braves did not have any position players participating in the game to get in on the mini-Home Run Derby, there were a pair of pitching prospects on hand to lend a hand.
Kyle Wright came into the game in the 8th inning and made short work of the World lineup despite inheriting runners on 1st and 3rd with no out. He got a fly ball out and then induced a double play to help preserve the US team’s lead. Despite being super efficient, that was all the action that Wright would see as the US Team still had some more players that they wanted to giving some playing time.
Touki Toussaint came on for the World team in the bottom half of the 8th and gave up a leadoff triple to Taylor Trammell. Trammell scored on a sacrifice fly for the second out before striking out Carter Kieboom on three straight pitches (the last on his curve ball looking). As the World Team failed to tie the game up in the top of the 9th, that was end of Touki’s day and the end of the game.
