The Atlanta Braves made a flurry of roster moves prior to Friday’s series opener against the New York Yankees. Atlanta selected the contract of outfielder Michael Reed and recalled RHP Evan Phillips from Triple-A Gwinnett. To make room on the active roster, Atlanta optioned Matt Wisler and placed reliever Peter Moylan on the 10-day disabled list with a right forearm strain.

Reed is a 25-year old outfielder who has appeared in 30 games at Gwinnett where he was hitting .369/.480/.592 with five home runs. Since the DH will be used in this series, the Braves are electing to add another bench option with one less pitcher in the bullpen.

Phillips was initially called up to the majors back on June 24 but was optioned before he could appear in a game. He has had an excellent season at Triple-A where he has a 2.09 ERA in 38 2/3 innings. He has struck out 13.5 batters per nine innings.

Moylan hits the disabled list with a right forearm strain after making 36 appearances with a 4.85 ERA. He has struggled of late allowing eight earned runs in his last 7 2/3 innings.
