Braves open post-break run with 8-5 win over Nationals

The Atlanta Braves got the second half of the season off on a good note with an 8-5 win over Stephen Strasburg and the Washington Nationals. Anibal Sanchez allowed six hits and three runs while striking out eight.

Braves move Acuna to leadoff for Friday’s series opener

Brian Snitker juggled his lineup again on Friday inserting Ronald Acuna Jr. into the lead off spot. Acuna responded by going 3-for-4 including his eighth home run of the season.

Ozzie Albies leaves game early with hamstring tightness

However, it wasn’t all good news for Atlanta as Ozzie Albies exited Friday’s game due to tightness in his right hamstring. Albies appeared to have suffered the injury on his first inning double. He remained in the game initially but was replaced in the third inning. Brian Snitker told MLB.com’s Mark Bowman after the game that Albies that the injury would likely keep Albies out of the lineup for the remainder of the weekend.

“We’ll get him some treatment and stay away from him for a day or two and then see how he is,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said.

Fried, rather than Gohara, likely to get nod Tuesday

The Braves will need a fifth starter on Tuesday and it looks like that is going to be Max Fried instead of Luis Gohara.

GM Alex Anthopoulos recently held a sit down with Braves A-listers and Talking Chop’s Stacy Marlow was there. Among items discussed were the trade deadline, how not signing 2018 1st round pick Carter Stewart will effect the team and what the team might consider at the catching position going forward.

Anthopoulos also discussed the team’s bullpen needs and they appear to be doing their due-diligence having checked in with Baltimore about reliever Zach Britton.

Padres’ top prospect Fernando Tatis Jr. may miss the remainder of the season due to a thumb injury. He suffered the injury on Thursday on a stolen base attempt.

Tigers place Michael Fulmer on DL with strained oblique

Tigers’ ace Michael Fulmer was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Friday due to a strained oblique. This move likely eliminates the chance that Fulmer will be traded at the deadline.

Mets Activate Yoenis Cespedes

The Mets made a flurry of roster moves on Friday with the most significant being activating Yoenis Cespedes from the disabled list. Cespedes missed two months with assorted leg injuries.

New York is also reportedly close to trading closer Jeurys Familia to the Oakland A’s.
