After a bizarre two-game series followed by a Wednesday (!) break, the Atlanta Braves return home on Thursday evening. While that is unquestionably nice for the squad, there is no break in the schedule, as Atlanta plays host to the (very) talented Los Angeles Dodgers in the first of a four-game set.
Anibal Sanchez takes the ball for Atlanta and his full-season numbers (24.2 K%, 7.6 BB%, 2.76 ERA) remain impressive. With that said, the veteran right-hander showed some less than encouraging signs against the Nationals in the first game after the All-Star break and it will be interesting to see how he responds to a dangerous Dodgers lineup.
In opposition, the Braves were once scheduled to face Clayton Kershaw but, at least in the opener, Atlanta has been granted a reprieve in the form of Rich Hill. He is the first of three left-handed starters the Braves will face in the series and, when Hill is “on,” the southpaw is devastating. However, Hill is just inconsistent enough to provide hope and that is a positive thing.
At this early stage, the Dodgers are seen as (small) favorites from a Las Vegas perspective and, if you believe that, the Braves will be punching up at their opponent in this spot. Still, this should be an entertaining and competitive series and you can follow the action with us.
Stay tuned.
