As the Red Sox and Yankees seemingly gobble up every available rental on the market, the Braves have continued to employ a wait and see approach regarding the 2018 trade deadline. Thry have checked in on basically every reliever that is available and have been connected in limited ways to a lot of different names including Mike Moustakas and a number of pitchers.
Now, it appears that one of those pitching targets has come into focus a bit.
Sources: #BlueJays, #Braves have discussed a Marcus Stroman trade, although there is no evidence of current progress. Story: https://t.co/MFZokDxJR3 @MLB @MLBNetwork

While he missed a chunk of time in 2018 with a DL stint for shoulder fatigue, Marcus Stroman is coming off a 5.7 rWAR season in 2017 that saw him post a 3.07 ERA with 164 strikeouts in 201 innings. Adding to the appeal is that Stroman is under team control through 2020 which meets one condition that front office officials have looked for when it comes to trading important assets.
One last thing to note, the Braves could try to package Stroman with a reliever in order to kill two birds with one stone. The Blue Jays have some interesting bullpen piece including former National Tyler Clippard.
