Brian Snitker is hoping that Sam Freeman can return to form despite his recent struggles. Snitker told the AJC’s Gabe Burns that he will use Freeman in some lower leverage situations to try and get him back on track.
“We need that kid to be a big part of what we’re doing down there,” Snitker said on Sunday. “He’s capable, he’s done it before and he’ll do it again. We just need to hang with him.”

The Houston Astros picked up reliever Ryan Pressly in a trade from the Minnesota Twins Friday night in exchange for prospects Jorge Alcala and Gilberto Celestino.
The Cardinals have designated reliever Greg Holland for assignment despite owing him just under $5 million for the remainder of the season. The team will have seven days to either find someone to take Holland or release him.
St. Louis wasn’t finished as they also dealt reliever Sam Tuivailala to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for minor-league pitcher Seth Elledge.
The Philadelphia Phillies picked up infielder Asdrubal Cabrera in a deal with the New York Mets. The Phillies sent right-handler Franklyn Kilome to New York in the deal. Cabrera has played second base most of the season but is expected to see time at short and third base in Philadelphia.
The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired infielder Eduard Escobar from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for three prospects. Escobar will be a free agent at the end of the season but for now is likely to slot in at third base in place of Jake Lamb who is dealing with a shoulder injury.
Mike Moustakas finally has a new home and it isn’t Atlanta. The Brewers acquired Moustakas from the Royals Friday night in exchange for outfielder Brett Phillips and righty Jorge Lopez.
