Braves activate Arodys Vizcaino from the DL, option Michael Reed back to Gwinnett

The Braves will have at least one more fresh arm in the bullpen as Viz is back from the DL

Much has been made of the Braves’ bullpen of late due some late game collapses during the team’s most recent home stand and some “adventures” later in games all season. There are some quality arms in the Braves’ bullpen, but they have been heavily used and there are some....less quality options in the relief corps as well.

Compounding the problem for the Braves of late is that Arodys Vizcaino had to make a trip to the disabled list with an ailing shoulder that apparently has been bothering him most of the season. This isn’t exactly what you want to hear about the guy that has gotten the lion’s share of late game, high leverage situations...but the Braves were optimistic throughout the ordeal that his trip to the DL was not going to be a lengthy one.

It appears that was correct.

While Viz can give us heart attacks some times, he has been a positive in the Braves’ bullpen in sporting a 1.82 ERA and 3.18 FIP in 30 appearances this year for the Braves. With the Braves’ bullpen having to throw 5 innings in last night’s extra inning win, getting a fresh arm that can be paired with the newly called up (and actually retained this time) Evan Phillips is a positive development.

Unfortunately for Michael Reed, Viz will be using his roster spot for the moment. Reed had just been called up and his stay was a short one that failed to yield a plate appearance with the big league club. Reed has posted a .995 OPS in the minors this season and should see some more time in the majors assuming the need arises.
