Two days after calling Chase Utley and the Los Angeles Dodgers “unprofessional” for their batting practice attire, Braves’ broadcaster Joe Simpson has issued an apology.
Joe Simpson Statement
— FOX Sports: Braves (@FOXSportsBraves) July 30, 2018
I apologize to Chase Utley, the entire Dodgers organization and their fans for comments I made during Saturday’s broadcast. I’ve always held the organization in the highest light and my comments certainly didn’t reflect that. I am sorry to everyone affected.
Simpson made the comments during Saturday’s broadcast and showed footage of the Utley and the Dodgers taking BP in t-shirts. This drew outrage from many watching the broadcast and Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts said he considered it a “cheap shot.” It became a story for many outlets on Sunday morning which was also the same day of Chipper Jones’ Hall of Fame induction.
Simpson reportedly met with Utley face-to-face on Sunday and apologized but did not address the comments on Sunday’s broadcast.
I guess better late than never.
