Max Fried looks to get Braves back on the right track

The big lefty will get the first look at the NL’s best team.

MLB: Atlanta Braves at St. Louis Cardinals Joe Puetz-USA TODAY Sports

Atlanta is likely ecstatic to get out of the house of horrors that is Yankee Stadium, but will not draw any easier competition in this new series with Milwaukee.

The Brewers are the only team in the National League right now with 50 wins and the Braves will look to join them tonight as they send the 6-4 lefty Max Fried to the mound.

Fried was nails in his last start when he struck out 11 Cardinal players over six shutout innings. Fried was pumping his fastball up to 95-97 which made his mid 70’s curveball almost un-hittable. Fried also threw a couple of pitches in his last start that we have not seen him use a lot in his career up to this point, a slider and changeup. Fried will have another tough opponent today but if his last game was any indication that he is figuring things out then tonight should be must-watch baseball.

His opponent will be former Braves legend (not really) Jhoulys Chacin. Chacin is 30 years old with an ERA of nearly 4 on the season. The Milwaukee right-hander has struggled with his command this season and is walking nearly four batters per nine innings. While Chacin has been able to reduce his rate of home runs allowed compared to the last couple of seasons, his strikeout rate has dipped as well.

The Braves will be glad to get to some slightly cooler weather than what they had to endure while playing the Yankees but it will still be rather warm.
