Braves among teams to make offer for Manny Machado

The Braves are among seven teams to do so, and are not the frontrunners, though all offers are reportedly close.

According to Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun, the Braves are one of seven teams to have made an offer for Orioles infielder Manny Machado.

The Orioles have received offers from the Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Milwaukee Brewers, Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs, and the offers rank in that order of appeal, according to the source.

All the offers are said to be “very close” in appeal according to the source. Several other teams have checked in on Machado.

This suggests that the Braves are nowhere near the frontrunners, but hardly behind the pack in any significant way. Still, with a lot of suitors in the running, the chances of any team coming down with Machado are not particularly high.

Notably, Encina notes that the Dodgers’ offer, currently considered to lead the pack, did not include prospect outfielder Alex Verdugo, nor prospect pitcher Yadiel Alvarez. That may give some insight as to the types of packages currently being offered, though the Orioles will likely try to create a bidding war as a way of extracting as much value as they can from their eventual trading partner.
